Taraji To Host BET’s 2017 Black Girls Rock

Highlighting the journey of Black women as they create spaces…

Oscar nominee and everyone’s favorite Empire star Taraji P. Henson has been announced as the host of this year’s Black Girls Rock Awards.
Henson will honor creator and star of Insecure, Issa Rae who will be receiving the Star Power Award.
Among other awardees will be singer Roberta Flack (Living Legend Award); black-ish actress Yara Shahidi (Young Gifted and Black Award); financier Suzanne Shank (Shot Caller Award); and community organizers Derrica Wilson and Natalie Wilson of The Black & Missing Foundation (Community Change Agent Award).
“I am honored to host the Black Girls Rock Awards. I love the message and I love Beverly Bond and her vision. I was lucky to be honored in 2011. It is truly a highlight of my life. Now I’m back to be part of this amazing night to honor the strong and powerful Yara, Issa Rae, Roberta, Suzanne, Derrica and Natalie. Let’s make history together as we come together as women of brains, beauty and in support of each other,” Henson said in a post on Instagram.
The 2017 Black Girls Rock Awards will be taped on August 5 at the New Jersey Performance Arts Center in Newark and will air on BET on Sunday, August 20 at 8 p.m.
