Solange & Beyoncé Will Compete for “Album of the Year”

Highlighting the journey of Black women as they create spaces…
It was only a matter of time before Beyoncé and Solange went head-to-head for one of the biggest titles in music.
Arguably, Beyoncé’s 2016 album, Lemonade, and Solange’s A Seat at the Table were the most popular albums of 2016. Some would even say it’s the best work either artist has put out to date. So it should come as no surprise that the two will be competing against each other in several categories, including for the title of “Album of the Year” at the upcoming 2017 BET Awards.
via Billboard:
Beyoncé is the leading nominee for the 2017 BET Awards with a total of seven nominations. Close behind is Bruno Mars with five nods, followed by Chance the Rapper, Solange and Migos tied at four a piece. Beyoncé’s seven nods include best female R&B/pop artist (vying against sister Solange), best collaboration (with Kendrick Lamar on “Freedom”), album of the year and video of the year.
Beyoncé and Solange are also competing for “Video of the Year” with their singles “Sorry” and “Cranes in the Sky” as well as “Best Female R&B/Pop Artist“. Solange is also nominated for this year’s “Centric Award”. Last year, Beyonce was nominated for and won the “Centric Award” as well as “Album of the Year”, “Video of the Year”, and “Best Female R&B/Pop Artist”. It looks like this year’s award show is definitely worth watching.
The 17th Annual BET Awards will air June 25th at 8 p.m but you can check out the full list of nominees now on the website.
