Yara Shahidi On Representation and Diversity in the Media


Last month, 16-year-old Black-ish actress Yara Shahidi accepted the Daily Point Award in recognition for her passion and commitment to activism at the 2016 Points of Light Conference on Volunteering and Service.

During the event, the teen gave an eloquent speech on the importance of representation in the media, explaining that the media gives audiences their first introduction to a member of a cultural group and as such how that culture is represented is often seen as reality.
