“Stay Woke” on Black Lives Matter

Highlighting the journey of Black women as they create spaces…

Activist and Grey’s Anatomy actor, Jesse Williams examines the poor treatment of Black Americans and the development of the Black Lives Matter movement in a new documentary.
Featuring interviews from Black Lives Matter co-founders, Alicia Garza and Patrisse Cullors, Stay Woke: The Black Lives Matter Movement will detail how the movement amplified Black voices and issues and highlight the difficulty leaders face going forward in creating lasting change.
In an interview with The Huffington Post Williams said, “Black Lives Matter is in many ways, in its adolescence…It’s an ongoing movement, so we wanted to be sure that as we catalog its origin story and machination, we also wanted to be sure we do not treat it as a fixed, finite, closed circle. We want to look back without being conclusive. That was really important to us.”
Williams, who will star in and executive produce the film, has spoken against police brutality in the past–both through his social media accounts and on the front lines, joining protesters in Ferguson in 2014 against the shooting of an unarmed black, Mike Brown.
Stay Woke: The Black Lives Matter Movement airs on Thursday, May 26th at 9pm on BET.
