Oprah Winfrey (Selma, The Butler) will be staring and producing the HBO’s adaptation of The Immortal Life of Henrietta Lacks.
Based on the life of Henrietta Lacks, an African-American woman whose cancerous blood cells were unwittingly used to invent the first immortal human cell line, the film is told from her daughter Deborah’s (Winfrey) perspective and details her search to learn about the mother she never knew and how her unauthorized cells led to unprecedented medical research.
Winfrey and True Blood creator, Alan Ball are producers. Shooting for the film will begin this summer.
