Highlighting the journey of Black women as they create spaces…
Tessa Thompson, whose movie credits include Creed, Dear White People, For Colored Girls and Selma is the newest addition to Marvel’s Thor: Ragnarok, the third installment to the Marvel franchise. According to Deadline, Thompson’s character will appear in other Marvel stories and be some kind of superhero. While there is no official word yet on which character that will be–rumors place her as Thor’s love interest in place of Natalie Portman (Jane Foster) who will not be returning for the film.
In a Instagram post quoting Vanity Fair Thompson stated:
“Truth be told, I’d love to be painted purple one day. For now, I am beyond excited to join @marvel universe and the world of Thor and couldn’t think of a better person to usher me in than @taikawaititi, & I’m *very* happy to say that , YES, I will be Brown.”

Ironically, Thompson will be playing alongside Natalie Portman in Annihilation (2017) a sci-fi story about a female biologist who signs up for a dangerous expedition.
In Thor: Ragnarok, Thompson will be joining cast regulars Chris Hemsworth, Mark Ruffalo, and Tom Hiddleston. Production is set to start early July and the film is scheduled for release on Friday, November 3, 2017.
