Whoopi Offers Pot-Infused Edibles to Relieve Menstrual Pain

Highlighting the journey of Black women as they create spaces…
Comedian and The View co-host, Whoopi Goldberg is the latest celebrity to enter the weed business. Announcing a joint venture with Maya Elisabeth, founder of Om Edibles, their company “Whoopi & Maya” will offer pot-infused edibles and ointments aimed at reliving menstrual cramps.
Goldberg has been a vocal supporter of marijuana in the past. In 2014 she began writing as a columnist for The Cannabist where she describes the ordeal of living with glaucoma and the relief she achieved by using a vape pen.
“These glaucoma-induced headaches come on like freight trains — like, BOOM, my head starts hurting, my eyes start bugging, my whole body starts to tense up.” She writes in “My Vape Pen and I, A Love Story. “I used to take Advil by the handful for this very reason, and I don’t take Advil anymore — not for my eye. You’re not supposed to eat Advil every day, and I was eating them every day, these man-made things. But I can do this [vapping] without hurting myself.”
Speaking with Vanity Fair, Goldberg expressed wanting to create discreet products that give women relief from their cramps but wouldn’t leave them unable to function. After feeling blown off by industry experts who believe the lack of marijuana relief for cramps is a niche market Goldberg sought Elisabeth and the two partnered together.
Whoopi & Maya will be releasing their first four products this April at dispensaries in California:
- A raw sipping chocolate infused with either CBD (euphoria-free) or THC
- THC-infused tincture
- A THC-infused bath soak
- A topical rub
The announcement comes weeks after the release of Foria Relief, a pot-infused suppository that soothes menstrual pain. Whether you prefer edibles, ointments or suppositories please let’s encourage the advances in menstrual medicine and accessories. It is a women’s market that receives little attention.
