Amandla Stenberg Starring in Black Lives Matter Film

Highlighting the journey of Black women as they create spaces…
Actress and fellow naturalista Amandla Stenberg, best known for her role as Rue in The Hunger Games and her viral video “Don’t Cash Crop On My Cornrows“, is set to star in an upcoming film inspired by Black Lives Matter. A debut novel for writer Angela Thomas, The Hate U Give follows Starr, a 16-year old girl whose life is upended after witnessing the shooting of her unarmed friend. Raised in an impoverished neighborhood and attending an affluent prep-school Starr is torn between the two worlds as she tries to speak her truth.
The novel which reportedly started a bidding war when shopped to publishers also caused strong interest among several studios and producers. Casting Stenberg as the lead will no doubt gain added interest. No stranger to timely, sensitive topics, Stenberg has proven to be the voice of her generation and an activist–unapolegetically addressing cultural appropriation, race, sexuality and the Black Lives Matter movement.
A release date has not yet been set for the novel or the movie but rest assured fans of Stenberg and Black Live Matters supporters will show up in droves to support it.
